Help build a Cultural Village
Part of the ISLC vision includes the creation of a “Culture Village.” As missionaries train with us and learn the language and culture, it is vital that they be immersed in the culture and language as soon as they are ready. Our Culture House Program provides trainees with just such an environment. In the past, we were able to rent facilities on campus for the purpose of our Russian Cultural House.
Now we are planning to develop the property the Lord has entrusted to us and build three Culture Houses. Russian, Arabic and Chinese Culture Houses will provide missionaries with the practical pre-field experience that will enable them to become both fluent in the language and proficient in their new culture quickly and effectively. In the house they will live with and be guided by a native family, take native meals together, practice their conversational skills and begin that all-important acculturation process. Culture houses that provide such an environment will be a vital part of the ISLC experience.
You can aid this project in several ways. Of course, our first step is to purchase the materials for building the village. We will need to build a new road into the village and provide the houses with parking. And then we will need to begin construction of the houses. You may also donate your time and talents to its construction. We will be in need of those who can do anything from installing septic systems and building roads to the construction on the new Culture Houses. To volunteer, click on the “Volunteers Needed” link.
You can designate a financial gift to a specific aspect of the project, if you would like. We have broken down the project into “bricks” for a $500.00 donation, “roads” for $1000.00, and “walls” for a $5000.00 donation. Of course, no donation is too small. If you like, you can also give toward some much needed repairs to our existing facilities.
